Mihaela Gligor's volume, Memories of Terror. Essays on Recent Histories (CEEOL, Frankfurt, 2021, 266 pp.) brings into light once again the theme of memory and memories in the aftermath of the Shoah. The seven chapters of different authors, all women, Mihaela Gligor, Sonia Catrina, Eugenia Mihalcea, Olga Ștefan, Katharina Friedla, Tuvia Friling and Arleen Ionescu present new cases, new life stories and situations thoroughly analyzed with scientific, sophisticated and interdisciplinary tools. The volume is a collection of rare points of view about the Time of Terror and the Time of Remembrance, the Before and the After. The studies mostly based on authentic documents and first hand scientific bibliography represents a treasure of thought and research on the theme. The original and sharp views of the authors refreshes the historiography of what seems to be a very generous if not an ever self-regenerating subject of the Time of Remembrance, to be endlessly kept as such in order to prevent another Time of Terror. It also represents the true answer to the initially expressed question “What should we do to keep their memory alive?”
